More color
The thrift shop was closed today, even to volunteers, so I stayed home. I cleared some clutter, and set up my keyboard so I could play some songs. I stuck one of Michele's paintings to the wall, and my charm quilt top to another. The extra color makes this place a little nicer. When Michele came home from school, she brought me a ceramic something. Unfortunately, it broke in transit. But we taped it back together and put it with her other artful objects. Also, I spoke with our travel agent, and asked to be at the same hotel Tina is staying at in Thailand. He said he'd get back to me and hasn't yet. When Chris got home, he had a bite to eat, and then we went to see "Frost/Nixon". It was pretty good, even though I was too young at the time to remember much about Watergate. After that, I finished sewing a teacup, but then was disappointed by the results and started taking it apart again.

Not so charming anymore
As it was Monday, I needed food to take to the quilt gathering. I was unprepared, so I took the only food I had which was fruit. I cut it up for a salad. This alone made me late getting to the gate, but then the elevator passed me twice before it stopped. I could have walked down the steps much faster. However, Pam was waiting for me when I got there, and we drove to the ACS building. Our fearless leader was not present today, so we all chipped in to set up, decide what to work on, and set out lunch, and then pack up. A few people traded charm squares which we decided to do on a weekly basis, but I think the interest is waning.
After supper, we walked onto post, and took the car to the theatre to see Inkheart, starring Brendan Fraser. It was pretty good. The basic premise was very interesting, and has the potential for many more stories. When we got back we had an e-mail from our travel agent. It shows some nice pictures of places we can visit in Thailand, but it is very vague on the details. I hope I can talk to him tomorrow and pin it down. We plan to leave a week from today, so we need to finalize the itinerary.

What's in YOUR pincushion?
Michele wasn't feeling well, so Chris and I went to church without her. Nancy gave us the key so Michele can look after their cat while they are gone. After church, there was a buffet lunch for a visiting bishop-type person who Chris refers to as not-the-bishop. I don't understand it. Anyway, then we stopped by the commissary to get our weekly groceries. Back at home, Michele was feeling better and she helped us put the groceries away. I retired to my sewing room to work on another teacup. But after supper I got sidetracked taking apart my pincushion. I found 5 machine needles and 101 hand sewing needles. (I wondered where all my needles had gotten to). Chris walked in while I was putting it back together and asked why I was spooning dirt into a bag. Ha! I spent the rest of the evening squeezing my other pincushion and pulling machine needles out of it (while watching TV). Weird.

More 70's music
Tina called before nine to go to the flea market. It was after nine when we got there, but it was so small, that we were out of there pretty quickly. I got a book, and a set of king size sheets. So then we went to the Px and parked. First we walked to an outside clothing vendor that Tina knows. This lady let Tina and I take clothes inside the building to try them on in the bathroom. Most of the clothes were $5 or $10. I got three tops for $20. Then we went to the Px, but they didn't have any more the the shirts I wanted. Oh well, just have to make my own. Then Tina dropped me off at the gate and she went home. I walked back to the apartment, and had lunch. I noticed we were out of bread, so I made more. There isn't enough flour left to make another loaf, which means we have used up a 25 pound bag of bread flour over the last 7 months. We are planning a commissary run after lunch tomorrow.
I watched my Netflix DVD on my computer since it was something Chris and Michele would not enjoy. Then I listened to more 70's music on Youtube. (Hearing old familiar songs helps with homesickness). For some reason, my browser crashed, so I took advantage of that, and went into my sewing room to work on my last secret sister gift. While sewing, I watched "28 DAYS" and then a Batman movie came on TV. Now I am ready to go to bed.

Singing 70's songs
Chris got up very early to be at work at 5. It was too early for me to get up , so I stayed in bed and then slept through Michele getting ready for school. I got up around 8, skipped breakfast because I wasn't hungry, then caught the bus for gate 10.
I was supposed to help sign ladies onto post so they could shop at the thrift shop, but most of them never showed (nor called). So I did some shopping myself and got some movies, a pattern, some water glasses, and some tops. Then we (the thrift shop volunteers) went to lunch at Popeyes. Not the place of my choice due to the proliferation of fried foods, but they had a barbeque special that was nice. Then we went our separate ways. I came home and watched two of my movies while hemming the arms of 4 tops. They were too long. I called Tina to see if she wants to go to the Hannam flea market tomorrow. And I discovered that the cassette tape I bought had the wrong cassette in it. So I went to Youtube to listen to the songs that should have been on it. Oh, how I miss my piano and being able to sing as loud as I want!

Coffee and dessert
Today I went to the thrift shop to help out. I also went there to deliver the applications for scholarship that Michele filled out at what seemed to be the last minute. Today was the deadline. But she was not alone. Many people stopped by to hand in scholarship applications throughout the day. We were there until almost 4 to be sure we'd caught everyone coming by. I got a pillowtop there for a mattress and a lady there drove me home with it. After supper, I changed into better clothes and Chris drove Nancy and me to General Uberti's house. His wife had a coffee and dessert gathering for division chief spouses. I was the lowest ranking spouse there so I was on my best behaviour. She served cheese and crackers, bite-size cupcakes with whipped cream, tira misu, mixed fruit, and a large chocolate cake. For drinks there was coffee, tea, soft drinks and wine. The only drink I had was tea, and the only dessert I didn't have was the tira misu. We had a good time socializing. Then Chris came to drive Nancy and me home. He then went straight to bed since he has to be at work tomorrow at 5 for a videoteleconference.

Hand sewing
Andrea came over this morning to work on the project from Saturday. She got it all finished except for the hand work on the binding. She left around lunchtime and I worked on my mother's birthday present. I would post a photo, but my mother reads this blog. I finished watching "Titanic", which I had started yesterday. At 5:30 Michele and I walked across the bridge to the gate where Chris met us and took us to the movie theatre. We watched Grand Torino. It was an interesting story, but it is not for people who are uncomfortable with bad or rude language. Then we stopped at the foodcourt for sub sandwiches and french fries. Then we came home, they to their computers and I to my handwork. Michele also finished her financial aid forms for the AWC and AWC thrift shop. They are due tomorrow, so it was down to the wire.
On Monday she brought me a bookend that she'd made in ceramics class. It is the carved head of a lion. Very impressive.

I must be tired.
I went back to bed after packing their lunches. I just didn't want to get up and go to the thrift shop. But, I HAD to go to the school to return the key. (And Lisa offered me a ride from the gate). Then, being not that far from the thrift shop, I went. They want me to come again on Friday to help sign people onto post. I don't know who these people are, but the shop will be open for an hour or so just for them to shop.
While I was there, Chris called and wanted to go to lunch. So he drove up and I walked out to meet him. We went to the Dragon Hill and asked Michele if she'd like to come, but she'd already started eating with her friends. So we walked to the deli. The food was alright, but not worth going out of our way for. Then Chris drove me back to the gate and I went home. I had intended to sew, but I started reading instead and fell asleep. How could I be tired after getting up late? Then Michele came home and I asked her to help me find the name of a movie I watched last night but didn't finish. It was kinda scary and I would rather read the ending online, than watch it late at night. It turned out to be "Hide and Seek (2005)". The ending as printed didn't fit the story I had seen. But I read that the DVD has 4 alternate endings. Maybe one of them would be more fitting.
After supper I started thinking about my mother's birthday, and getting some ideas. I watched the first videocassette of Titanic while working on it. Then it was time to blog and go to bed. I also vacuumed my sewing room because tomorrow Andrea is coming over to sew.

Monday morning sewing
I brought my charm squares to our group meeting. I also brought egg salad sandwiches to share for lunch. I used wheat bread and homemade bread. Pam picked me up at the gate. I meant to return the cafeteria key on the way, but forgot. We traded squares, and cut 6" fabric strips to make quilt kits. Then we passed them out among ourselves to make later and bring back the completed tops. By the time we stopped for lunch, many ladies had left. Only about 6 of us stayed to eat. Pam and Toniette shared their cookies and pineapple with me so they wouldn't have to take them home. Adele let me put the food in her fridge because we decided to go to Dongdaemun. We took the subway there. We bought fabric of course. Adele and I both bought white minkee dot for 5000won/yard. We looked at silk, and sparkly tulle, printed canvass, and jewelry makings. Adele dropped me off at the walk-in gate. As I was walking up the hill, a car stopped to offer me a ride. It was Chris coming home from work. As we burst into the apartment with my purchases, Michele wondered where we'd been. We ate the leftover egg salad and pineapple for supper. I spent an hour trying to work out some statistic problems someone sent me (they want help). I also looked up flights to Thailand since we want to go there for spring break. And now its time for bed. I didn't get to do any sewing. But the good news is that I had planned to put triangles in the corners of my spring blocks, but everyone liked them just as they were, so now I can go on to something else.

Class Picture
After church we walked to a local park. It was nice to see grass and trees, water and fish, forsythia and pansies. There were lots of plants not blooming yet so we'll be sure to go back when they are. It's a lovely place with lots of walking paths. When we got back, it was time to start supper. Chris made an outstanding chuck roast with potatoes. Then later, he made egg salad for me to take to the gathering tomorrow for lunch. I cut lots of 3" squares to trade tomorrow. Also, Lisa sent me the picture she took of the class on Saturday. Everyone did so well.
Aren't we a colorful bunch?

Quilt Class
I had most of my stuff packed from the night before. So it didn't take me long to pack my machine and run the pile down to Chris's car (with his help). It was a little after 9 when we got to the cafeteria. I got set up and was sorting fabrics when the first students arrived. From then on, I was busy answering questions. Having a model was a good idea, except that some people worked ahead and did things differently. But we all had a good time and one lady walked home and brought me lunch. Another brought cookies and another chocolate. What a great group we had! Not everyone finished, but many did and they all said they liked their project. Some ladies even took extra fabric home to make more. I'll post a pic when I get it. Someone took a photo of the class with their projects. We ended about 2:30 and packed up to go home. I forgot to test the cafeteria door to make sure it locked.
Chris and I stopped by the commissary to pick up groceries for the week. They were pushing some facial cream that takes off dead skin. It is for the face, but I didn't get any dead skin off there. But I tried it on my foot and a lot came off. I spent the rest of the day on my computer finding tapping scripts for losing weight. I hope to lose more than dead skin cells.

Prep day
Chris was going to take Michele and I to lunch today (the high school let out early) but I had a lot to do, so I stayed home. I wanted to prepare for the class tomorrow. However, I got to feeling sorry for myself (I want to go home, but there is no home to go to) and didn't accomplish as much as I had hoped. I did get the class notes written, and there is a pile of stuff waiting to go to class with me tomorrow. I thought I'd be really worried at this point, but I am cautiously optimistic that I don't have to drive myself nuts to be prepared. Several people have dropped the class, so that should make it go faster. If I can just get up early and vacuum the apt, I will feel free to enjoy the class however long it goes.

Blocks finished.
I got a little sewing in this morning. I had all my blocks in 15 piles of nine 4.5 inch squares. But then I discovered that there are lefthanded squares and righhanded ones. I am referring to the way the seams are pressed. So I had to rearrange the piles so that the lefthanded centers had all lefthanded tulips, and vice versa. I put two blocks together and then it was time to go to the thrift shop. I was there about 3 hours. I wasn't very productive because they left me in charge of pricing non-clothing items while they were gone and that is hard to do. Especially when they emphasize consistency in pricing.
Afterwards, I picked up the cafeteria key from the school (for Saturday's class) and met Chris. He showed me his new office-to-be. I guess they'll be moving in soon. We went to the registration office to rectify some personal info problems that they claim we don't have, but the hospital records say we do. Does the right hand speak to the left? Anyway, then I tried to catch the bus to our gate, but it was full of teenagers going home from school. I decided it was a nice day for a walk. When I got home, I spent the rest of the day sewing, and finished all 16 blocks. Whew! Now I can concentrate on planning for the class on Saturday.

The Pics are here
After going to bed early with a headache, getting up at midnight to post to my blog,
then going back to bed until 6:30, I got up to make the sandwiches and went back to bed. This time I didn't get up until 10. I figured to spend the entire day sewing, but it took me almost 3 hours to do e-mail and have a conversation via Skype with my brother and sister. THEN, I started sewing. Strangely enough, after all this cutting and sewing I still only have one block made. BUT, now all the block pieces are in 4.5 inch squares. So I can very quickly assemble the squares. And I plan to, soon.
Here is a pic of my new haircut. I uploaded a pic of my charm quilt to a previous post.

The Pics are coming.
Tina wanted me to come over today so I went to the thrift shop as early as I could. That meant that there was no time to upload the pictures. At noon I left the thrift shop and walked to Tina's house. I brought my fabric squares for the spring blocks and worked on them there. We talked about all the things that have gone missing in her house and other strange happenings. I am glad I don't live there. I wouldn't feel safe. Then I started getting a headache, so she drove me home. I read for a little bit and then fell asleep. When Chris came to bed, I woke up and thought "I need to post to my blog". There are pictures coming, I promise.
P.S. I just found out that the yellow sand levels for today were at an unhealthy level. Maybe that's why I got a headache.

Quilting day
Today we had a block of instruction on charm quilts. Then we all cut up fabric we had brought into 3 inch squares and traded them. Armed with lots and lots of squares, we sat at our machines and sewed them together. It was supposed to be done randomly, but I did a little tweaking as I went along. When I get a picture, I'll post it. I also got a lot of compliments on my new hair style from the quilt group. Chris says it doesn't look bad.
After lunch, Pam drove me to the gate. I carried my machine home and stayed in for the rest of the day because the yellow sand index was very high today. We were warned to stay indoors. Gee, darn, then I HAD to sew. I got a lot cut and ready to go. I am getting excited about these blocks. I think I have enough fabric for 24 blocks. I need to give out 16 so that leaves me with a few extras in case I get some I don't like.

Sewing Sleep-over
I realized Friday night that I needed one more fabric for my spring block and I just didn't have anything that would work. So I needed to go to Dongdaemun. But I have already been numerous times, so I already own all the fabrics that match my focus fabric. So this time I was resolved to go to the expensive places. After all, I only need half a yard. Tina wanted to go too, so we went together, visiting all the booths we normally skip because the price is 4 - 5 times higher. But I found three fabrics that were almost perfect. Then we found lunch at a place that sold steamed balls of dough. Some had a spring roll-type filling, and others had a sweet bean paste filling. For 5000 won we BOTH ate lunch. Can't beat that price. Then we walked around for awhile, and finally caught the subway home. I had packed extra clothes and my spring block fabrics in anticipation of spending the night at Tina's sewing. Well we got SOME sewing done, but mostly we chatted. We also went to the Px and got some clothes on sale. At 2am, after a movie, we went to bed. (Her husband is TDY).
In the morning, we chatted some more, then went to the PX again. I got my hair cut (Tina's idea) and we shopped the 75% off sale. For $22, I got 7 tops! I called Chris to see what was up, but he and Michele had gone to bed late, skipped church and forgotten about the meeting at 2. They hadn't even gone to the commissary.
So I asked Tina to take me home. Only Michele seemed to notice that my hair was cut. They were both glued their computers and I had to wonder if they had noticed that I had been gone over 24 hours.

Pre-pie day
I spent the morning ironing fabric from last weekend. It has all been washed and dried and pressed. I also ironed fabric samples until I decided that I had more important things to do. Then Chris picked me up at the gate and we went by Nancy's house to buy the pie. She was creative and drew the pi symbol on it. Fabulous! She decided to charge $3.14. After I paid, I told her it was pi dough. We won't eat it until tomorrow.
Then we went by the PX to buy elastic. But wait, they are out of 1" elastic, so I had to buy 1.5" elastic. You know, I was mad, but actually I think I like it better now that I have it in the waistband. On the other hand, it was a bear to thread through. I am glad the pants are finished.
Anyway, Chris dropped me back off at the gate and I spent the afternoon ironing more, and then trying to pick the fabrics for our spring block exchange. I think I have finally decided on a block design. I just wish I had the right purple-raspberry color to go with it. Chris and Michele went to see another movie tonight (that makes 3 in a row). I could go, but I'd rather sew.

Another day with Tina
Although I usually help out at the thrift shop on Thursdays, I knew Tina was going to call to go to Dongdaemun. So I stayed home and sewed until she called. She picked me up at the gate and we parked at the Ichon gate to catch the subway to Dongdaemun. We have been so often that we didn't read the signs and got on the wrong train (going the other way). But it was easy enough to walk to the other track and board a train going the other way. In Dongdaemun, we toured the first floor of "D" building to get clasps, buttons, fabric marking pens and pencils, and a bias tape maker. Forgeting that I came for more b/w fabric to match the piece that wasn't big enough, we proceeded to "Good Morning City" for lunch. Tina wanted to go to the icecream place. But I wanted protein first, so I bought a stick with pork, egg and beef chunks on it. Tina got a similar thing but with rounds of roasted rice balls. This was from a street vendor outside the building. Then, inside, there was a place selling octopus fries (small fried tentacles). They were very good, but Tina wouldn't have any. She got a sandwich and then we ordered three desserts. One was called Bingsu (yogurt and fruit). Tina had another yogurt and fruit dessert, and then we got a Bavarian waffle covered in chocolate (it did NOT look like the picture!). Afterwards we remembered the b/w fabric, and went back. There are 4 buildings and 5 floors per building, so we did a major search for several hours I think. We did finally find it and then went home. Tina took me back to her house where we had supper and took Duke for a walk. Then we watched TV until 10pm and I went home. We are planning a sewing sleepover for Saturday.

A Day with Tina
As I was preparing to go to post, I called Tina to see if she was up for a visit. She was so up for a visit that she picked me up at the gate and drove me to the Chosun. She went to the bank for American cash while I picked up a package of silk. Then we went into Itaewon to change dollars for won, but the offpost rate had dropped, so she changed her mind. She bought some DVD's from a street vendor and we went back to her house. She fixed us lunch (with three kinds of kimchi) and we spent the afternoon talking. After supper we watched one of her movies and then she drove me home. Chris and Michele spent the evening watching something at the on-post theatre. I got home about 10 and checked my e-mail. It is pretty late now, and going to bed sounds pretty good.

ASFC Luncheon
It was a good day to be me. First I finished a grey top I started months ago. Then Pam took me to the luncheon, where we found the Happy Quilt man with all his fabrics. What was unusual is that he had numerous packages of smaller pieces marked in won. It was great! It is cheaper in won, and the usual packages hold 2 yards, but I don't need that much.
Then we sat down for lunch. Chicken Cordon Bleu and veggies, then cheesecake. MMMM!
The program started when the AFSC president asked who had decoded her message in the monthly magazine. As it turns out, it was an unfamiliar font for the printer so it came out garbled, but I thought it was a cipher and decoded it. I got a prize for that.
The theme this month was Let's Make a Deal. I won an antique wooded Chinese paintbrush holder. Actually it looks like a wastebasket. Everyone got a gift at their place setting. Mine was a glass bowl with mints. Others got mac-n-cheese, diet soda, chopstick rests, etc. Then they had three gifts in the middle of each table. One was unwrapped and the others were wrapped. Each place setting had a number and as they called numbers, you could pick the unwrapped gift or go for a wrapped one. I got the unwrapped one which was a large green vase 2' high. Beautiful!
There was no way I could tote all this stuff home so I had Pam drive me to Chris' car and I put it in there. Well, except for the fabric I bought. He had no problem bringing it all in when he came home.
My top was a hit when I mentioned that I made it. No one had noticed!
Then I spent some blissful hours going through all my bags of newly acquired scraps, sorting them by size and removing staples. I even ironed a few, but then my foot cramped so I had to quit. I read a book for awhile before Chris came to bed. And I fell asleep before writing to my blog.

Scrap Day
Today we had the largest pile of scraps I have ever seen. It was a 4X8 table piled two feet high. It was a free for all, so we dove in. Everybody got something, even the ones that came late. These scraps were compliments of Mr. Kang for going to his warehouse. I think they are samples that are sent to him. To encourage people to take more scraps I told them about the scrap mystery quilt our guild is doing and it seemed to catch on. But still left are numerous strips 2 to 4 inches wide. Adele kept urging me to take them, but I couldn't carry any more. I came home with 3 grocery sacks full of scraps. The strips are now in her trunk. We didn't want to throw them away. When we were finished with that, we cut an entire roll of batting into 42 inch sections for baby quilts. Agh, what a job! Then we had lunch.
When Michele came home, she got out the TREMORS DVD and watched two of them. I watched a little of one, but tried to concentrate on e-mail. Chris came home with another Netflix movie - The Man with One Red Shoe. Why he was wearing only one red shoe was never explained. Then I filed my newly acquired fabrics by color. My closets are full. If I buy any more, where will I put it?

Making a dress.
Sunday. Church. Commissary. Home. E-mail. Sew.
What did I sew? I made a dress for myself. I have been meaning to for awhile. But it turned out differently than I expected. A Damour original. But it makes me look fat. So Michele tried it on. As usual, it looked pretty good on her. Now she wants it. If I can't get it to flatter me, I guess it will be hers. As she tried it on, I was reminded of a line from Men in Black - "The difference between you and me is that I make this look good."
P.S. Andrea sent me a picture she took at the quilting warehouse.

Spring Block Day
I was excited about today. The quilters would all gather at the cafeteria and work on our spring blocks. Ha! I got there at 9am and no one showed up until after 10. It was never as busy as I had imagined, although I suppose if you counted all the people who stopped by even for 5 minutes, a lot showed up. Only two people actually worked on their spring blocks. Every one else worked on their friendship blocks, or something else. A number of people didn't show up at all. No one stayed as long as I did and I was exhausted by the time 5pm rolled around. But even then the one person left was in no hurry and we didn't leave until 5:40. ARRGGH! On the other hand, I finished my friendship blocks and cut out a pair of pants. Chris and Michele went to the War Memorial (a museum) saw a movie and went to the commissary. Then they came by to pick me up. We came home, ate and each went to his own computer. I had an MP3 on tapping for clearing clutter, and after listening to it I cleaned the kitchen, loaded the dishwasher, finished the laundry, sorted out the sewing room, and sewed an ID-sized pocket in my coat pocket (so my ID won't fall out when I pull out a glove or a tissue). Pretty good for one evening.

What a stack!
This morning I finished ironing the 100+ yards of fabric I bought. What a job! Here is what 100+ yards of washed, dried, pressed and folded fabric looks like.
After that, I went to post to pick up the cafeteria key for tomorrow. I also dropped off some items at the library. I stopped by the commissary for chocolate chips and other stuff. I got the other stuff and several bags of M&M's, but forgot the chocolate chips. Then I went home to sew, but got into some stuff on the computer and spent the afternoon that way. We had left overs for supper, and then went to our Korean lesson. She came late and left early so that makes more time for sewing. But wait! I'm still on the computer.

Hot at work
This morning I ironed fabric for an hour. Then I took my shower and headed for the thrift shop. We only worked until 12:30, then we went to Burger King. Maryann had coupons for free food, so it didn't cost us anything. Then Andrea came by and drove me home. She picked up some things she had left a while back. After she left, my brother-in-law called. For him it was 1:30 am. But he was up working on a math problem. It was a long call. Then Chris came home and fixed supper. I started ironing more fabric. That went on until 11. I got to watch L.A. Law and House while I was ironing. Whew! I am not done yet. But I have over half of it done now.

A Warehouse of Fabric
I walked over to the commissary to meet the quilt group. I had been singing and dancing all morning looking forward to the trip today. Such excitement! The others were excited, too. When the last person arrived, we took a group photo and loaded in to the cars and left. I don't know who left first, but we didn't stay together. I had the directions in hand, but they were hard to follow, as were the roads. The signs were confusing. But, we made it. And there it was, a small warehouse, with tables loaded with 2 yard cuts of fabric in plastic sleeves. On both sides of the tables and in the back were rolls of fabric. The rolls were stacked in towers. Each tower was made of layers of rolls, one layer longitudinal, the other latitudinal, stacked higher than my head. I wondered what they would do if I chose a fabric on the bottom. It was cold in the warehouse because they had the door open. When the day warmed up, the warehouse didn't. Even with gloves on I was cold. So we didn't dawdle. I chose my packets of fabric as quickly as I could. The cutting line was long, so I stayed away from the rolls, and stood near the heater. But just before we left, the line had disappeared, so I asked the young man to get a roll for me and cut two yards. He cut it, then discovered a few small holes, so he cut another two yards, then gave me both cuts for free. I was very happy. Also, they gave our group THREE large boxes of scraps. I can't wait to see what's in there.
Getting back took longer. We took the scenic route, on purpose if anyone asks. I called Chris at work several times to get route information from his coworkers. We got back about 2:45. I walked my purchases home which was no small feat. I brought home 104 yards of fabric. At $2 a yard, who can resist? So of course I spent the rest of the day and evening washing, drying and pressing said fabric. I like pressing fabric in front of the TV. Tonight I watch Les Miserables while pressing. Chris said we'd go over our weight limit just on fabric. I told him we could leave our furniture behind and buy new when we get back. One has to have priorities.

Silk vest
Today I awoke late, partially because I had no place to go and partially because I didn't sleep through the night. One of our neighbors decided to hold a party at 3am. WHY?!!!!
Anyway, I communicated via SKYPE with my father-in-law, my brother and my sister. It was really nice and free, too. Then I finished a purple silk vest that my daughter requested. Here is a photo of her wearing it. Then I made 8 more on-point floral blocks and I have them ready to tape to a wall for color.
I am mentally ready for tomorrow, when we will go to Mr. Kang's warehouse to buy fabric. I am envisioning something bigger than Mary-Jo's and cheaper, too. I can't wait!

Scrap quilt in Progress
The Sandhills Quilters Guild is running a scrap mystery quilt and I am doing mine in purples. In the photo you can see the blocks I have made so far arranged haphazardly on my design wall. Well, I got impatient to do more, and curious to see how the eight-inch blocks fit into the design. Figuring that the info was on the internet somewhere, I did a Google search. And low and behold, there it was! It took me awhile to ascertain which photo was the one containing all the blocks I have made so far. I e-mailed the jpg to Tina and she agreed that was it. I asked if I had ruined it for her, but she said no, that she was going to pick fabrics to suit certain blocks. She is doing hers in blues.
Monday we the quilters met at Ingrid's house for show and tell, etc. She served an outstanding chocolate peanutbutter pie. Some people basted the group quilt on the floor and then we put it into my PVC frame. Others would like to build a similar frame but I can't find the three-way corners here in Korea. We also did our Secret Sister exchange and I got an electric scented candle and a Calgon pack from mine. I announced my next class, and they applauded. Then they told me that there was a big conflict that weekend, so after the meeting I went to the school to see about changing the date. Moving it up, that is. So now it is scheduled for March 21st.
I taped my floral on-point top to the wall in the bedroom. Then I worked on a lined purple silk vest for Michele.

Sunday Sewing
We went to church. That is, Chris and I did. Michele elected to stay home since she had been up so late reading. Of course, we all were up late. Anyway, in the afternoon, she attended a Vida Nueva meeting and then we went to the theatre to see "Valkyrie". Not bad, although not my usual fare. It was based on a true story about an assasination attempt on Adolph Hitler.
I spent the rest of the evening working on my floral on-point quilt. I have three rows done now.
