Eating with the Germans

Sunday

We slept in late. It was after 8:30 when I got up. I was going to whip up a batch of cheese squares first thing, but Chris put a roast in the oven. So I read e-mail for awhile to let it get settled. I watered some of the plants. Later, I whipped up eggs, added cheese and mustard, and vermouth, and spices and green onion tops. I spread it out on a sheet and topped it with tomato slices and Parmesan cheese. Then I asked Chris to put it under the roast. I also asked him to pull the top bin from the fridge because it had red meat juice in it. I washed it out.

I worked on scanning in a hymn and fixing the part nearest the center fold. Printing the first page went well, but the second page was hit-and-miss. So I worked on the second hymn until I realized how late it was. I quickly made and ate breakfast, then got dressed for church. Chris had gotten ready too, which surprised me. I put cheese squares in a container and had a small container with goat cheese in it for Anka.

Before the service, we greeted others. It wasn't a large turnout. We sang two praise songs and a hymns. Then the chaplain talked about how evil the thoughts of the heart (brain) are. Afterward, we musicians played two hymns. After the ending prayer, there was fellowship and cheese squares. I gave Anka's husband some goat cheese to see if she can eat it with out reacting.

We went home. I read e-mail and watched news and health videos. I changed clothes and watered the rest of the plants. I spent some time annoying gophers with the hose. I read some more. I watched another Myst V video. I changed clothes again. Chris pulled the roast out of the oven. We went to the LDS church for the potluck they had planned for the German contingent. Chris put the pot of beef on the table with the other entrees. I gave Michelle the bowl and she put sherbet and Sprite in it. It went to the dessert table.

Then we all took seats. We were at the head table. Michelle made a little speech and indicated that the German soldiers should be first in line. But one of the officers got up and had me stand beside Michelle. We were each presented with a bouquet of flowers. I didn't think I deserved any but smiled anyway. Then we all sat down and the soldiers got in line.

Eventually we all got some food and sat to eat and talk. Michelle had provided each table with a Splatter face game. Basically its a plastic hand that you put whipped cream on and at random turns of the handle, it throws the cream in your face. We all got hit and also took funny pictures. Not all tables played though.

After some time, the soldiers left and the women started cleaning up. Then Michelle kind of rushed us out, saying she would clean up. So we took flowers and meat and went home.

I posted to my blog and made tea. I worked on the hymn I had scanned this morning until Chris was ready. Then we watched an episode of Walker Texas Ranger. It was especially long, so he paused it at 10pm, and got ready for bed. I stayed up to write up today's events, and to finish watching Secrets in your Data, from PBS. Then I picked a sleep video for tonight.
