Searching for the key

Thursday

When I got up, I found the colonel's key on my keyboard, attached to a napkin. I brushed and swished. I pulled fabric from my stash for the next project. Terri texted at 8:58. I had forgotten our call, so I called her. We talked for about an hour. I finished my nine-patch block and pinned it to a bag. I took a photo and posted the class on Facebook. The whole thing took way too long because of a bad pre-filled bobbin.

I made and ate breakfast while watching The Highwire. I paused it when Diane texted that the repair man was waiting for me at the Colonel's house. I was told that the call would come from the gate so I could meet him there. Anyway, I threw on shoes and grabbed the key and my handbag. I drove up to the hill, where the man was waiting with a police escort. The police left and I tried to open the door, but I didn't have the key. It wasn't in my pockets or my purse or my car.

I left him there and drove home. I didn't find it there either. I searched everywhere that made sense and even places that didn't. I realized my swap shop keys were gone as well. I called Chris, but he didn't answer. I texted Diane and she said to call Dispatch. So I did. They said they would show up with a key, So I drove back to the colonel's house. And I waited. I prayed in tongues. Finally it occurred to me that Housing might have a key. I called Michelle, but she didn't answer, and then Dispatch showed up. So I got out and accompanied the repair man inside when the door was unlocked. I showed him the washer and he got to work. I texted the colonel. And I texted Michelle, explaining the problem. Then the door bell rang and the officer wanted me to fill out a report. So I did. The repair man left, saying he had to order a circuit board. I went out to give the report to the police. Michelle showed up with the key! I told her to follow me home and explain how she found it. So we left, but she had to go home.

I watched a little more of The Highwire, then went to the gym to walk. Diane and Jenni were there. Tonja was minding the swap shop. We walked for 15 minutes and then Michelle came. She explained that she went in my hallway and noticed the paper napkin that the colonel's key was attached to hanging out of a plastic bag. Huh!? There was no way to explain it, but I was so glad she found it. Diane went back to work, Jenni went home, Michelle and I talked a little longer, then each went home as well.

I had a bite to eat. I finished The Highwire. Chris came home from work with a pizza. I worked on my blog while listening to podcasts. I made tea and we watched TV. Then Chris tried to carry me to bed, but that didn't work out too well. We both fell asleep with the router and lights still on.
